Business & Personal Coaching
I’m often asked what qualifies me to advise people on how they should live their lives.
And one thing I know for sure is that if I can have a great life, so can others…
It’s when you start to look back over your life that you really start to wonder what drove you to get from there to here.
The most profound event in my life that shaped me was when at the age of 10 years old both my father then six months later, my mother, died. I was now truly alone, as I had no other family, and it was up to me to chart and drive the course of my life.
I think losing your parents at an early age really opens your mind, and I was determined to try and make something of myself. I didn’t have any external influences, so all my choices were my own.
Starting life in a small midlands town in middle England, I wanted to escape the repetitive life-cycle I had seen 90% of my school friends fall into.
My passport to this new life was via education. My education initially wasn’t great, but I instinctively knew that educating myself would give me a ticket to a plethora of life routes.
After attending the local college to get my O’ levels, then A’ levels, I found that human behavior and trying to understand why people do what they do pique my interest.
Hence a degree in Psychology was calling.
I’d also always been fascinated by the business world and wanted to see where I could fit in this multi-faceted environment and as first a graduate trainee, I eventually ended up as first a senior manager, then onto directorship level in the UK and abroad.
But that education bell was still ringing in my ears, and after 20 years in business, I went back to university and completed a Master’s in psychology and changed my career completely by venturing into teaching. And not just any old teaching but the hardest – the education of 16 -18-year-olds in vocational training.
My obvious instinct for people, business, and management quickly led me up the teaching career ladder. This culminated in becoming a Principal and CEO running businesses turning over 30 plus millions and workforces of 700 plus.
Unlike CEO positions in industry, in education, it is very unforgiving and a constant battle with a whole army of public bodies scrutinizing your every move.
However, it is also gratifying that you are really influencing people’s lives and their perspectives.
That brings me to here – today.
That yearning to make a difference to someone’s life is the sole reason I am a life coach.
If I can help that person navigate life and get from A to B in a way that is driven by them and owned by them, but aided by input from me, is a great feeling.
I delight in creating an environment where people can get more out of themselves, where they can become more of who they really are.
I also never stop learning. My appreciation of human behavior is still as strong today as it was years ago.
